What began as a South Texas tradition has grown into a statewide expression of encouragement from Team TRB.
For the last five years, TRB employees in South Texas have participated in Chalk the Walk, an initiative led locally by South Texas Health System Behavioral during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Each September, participants cover sidewalks with colorful messages of hope, encouragement, and connection, creating visible reminders that support can often begin with a simple conversation.
This year, Team TRB carried the tradition beyond South Texas for the first time, with employees participating in all four of the bank’s regions. Banking centers in South Texas, Central Texas, Houston, and North Texas filled their sidewalks with handwritten messages for customers and others passing by.
The statewide effort grew from TRB’s longstanding participation alongside South Texas Health System Behavioral, which spearheads the local Chalk the Walk initiative to encourage conversations about mental health and suicide prevention and help reduce the stigma that can keep people from seeking support.
Sometimes a few words of encouragement can reach someone at exactly the right moment. Chalk the Walk gives our teams a simple way to share that encouragement with the communities around us. – Jamie Brown-Rosas, Chief Community & Business Development Officer
Employees brought their own character to each display, combining messages of encouragement with colorful artwork and personal touches. While each location approached the effort differently, the sidewalks carried a common message: people matter, connection matters, and no one should feel they have to navigate difficulty alone.
