For generations of Rio Grande Valley families, the Texas International Fishing Tournament has been as much a summer tradition as a fishing competition.
Team TRB joined local families July 30 for TIFT Play Day, part of the 86th annual tournament at South Padre Island and Port Isabel. The annual event gives TIFT’s youngest participants a day of activities before two days of fishing begin.
The tradition also has deep roots within TRB. Members of our leadership team have been involved with TIFT for decades, including service in tournament leadership, while others grew up attending Play Day and now return with their own children.
That generational continuity is part of what has sustained TIFT for decades. Families and friends return to South Padre Island and Port Isabel each summer, often bringing multiple generations together around the tournament. For Team TRB, Play Day offered another opportunity to participate in a tradition connected to a community we have called home for generations.
Thank you to the anglers, families, volunteers, and organizers who made the 86th TIFT another successful tournament, and congratulations to all of this year’s winners.
