Texas Regional Bank (TRB) recently partnered with the Southwest Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce to launch a new annual recognition—the TRB Patriot Award—created to honor individuals who demonstrate extraordinary courage and a deep commitment to public service. The first recipient is Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle, recognized for his swift and selfless action during a dangerous road rage incident earlier this year.
On April 30, 2025, while driving through Magnolia en route to a scheduled community event, Sheriff Doolittle witnessed a confrontation unfolding a few vehicles ahead. A man exited his car holding a firearm and appeared ready to use it. Sheriff Doolittle acted immediately, disarming and detaining the individual before local law enforcement arrived. His quick response protected the lives of those nearby and helped prevent a potentially tragic outcome.
The award was presented during the May 26 Chamber meeting by Skip Colvin, TRB’s Market President and member of the Chamber’s board of directors. Sheriff Doolittle had no idea he was receiving the award—the moment was a complete surprise. His wife and several members of the Magnolia Police Department quietly coordinated with Colvin and the Chamber to help organize the occasion.
In reading the official proclamation, Colvin described Sheriff Doolittle’s response as “a reflection of the highest standards of law enforcement and the unwavering dedication he brings to protecting the citizens of Montgomery County.”
“Sheriff Doolittle sets an example for all of us,” said Colvin. “The Patriot Award was created to honor individuals who embody service, integrity, and leadership in their daily lives, and we’re proud to recognize Sheriff Doolittle as the first recipient of this award.”
The TRB Patriot Award will be presented annually in partnership with the Southwest Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce to honor outstanding individuals who demonstrate valor, integrity, and service to the community. Sheriff Doolittle’s recognition marks the beginning of what we hope will become a long-standing tradition of celebrating local heroes.
