Keeping the Tradition Going: TRB Tailgates with the Mean Green

The smoker is fired up, the Mean Green are back on the field, and a familiar Denton tradition is underway for another football season.
Texas Regional Bank (TRB) is once again welcoming University of North Texas (UNT) fans to its tailgates at DATCU Stadium, continuing a game-day tradition that dates back to 2009.
Throughout the 2026 season, TRB employees have served complimentary barbecue to customers, alumni, families, and football fans before kickoff. At the September 26 game against Houston Christian, approximately 250 guests stopped by for burgers, sausage, chicken, ribs, and time with The People You Know.
A Denton Tradition Since 2009
What began as a gathering of colleagues and friends at a local Denton bank has become a regular part of UNT football Saturdays. The tradition continued when TRB acquired the banking operation, with employees and volunteers keeping the smoker going season after season.
Duke York, TRB’s DFW West Regional President and longtime tailgate volunteer, has helped lead the effort for years. “We’ve been doing this for a long time, and a lot of the same faces keep coming back,” said York. “Our team enjoys getting out here, firing up the smoker, and catching up with people before the game. It takes a lot of folks to make it happen, and we look forward to it every season.”
The TRB smoker trailer will be back throughout the remaining 2026 home games, with employees and volunteers welcoming fans before kickoff.
Find TRB on the north side of the Blue Parking Zone at DATCU Stadium, with tailgating generally beginning two and a half hours before the game. Stop by for good food and spend some time with The People You Know.
