Texas Regional Bank (TRB) announced that Wyatt Abernethy has joined the organization as Chief Deposit Officer. In this role, he will lead the bank’s deposit growth strategy and oversee Treasury Management across its statewide footprint.
Abernethy will spearhead initiatives designed to strengthen TRB’s deposit franchise, support sales performance across regions, and enhance treasury capabilities that drive sustainable funding growth. He will collaborate closely with executive leadership and frontline banking teams to grow deposit relationships, expand Treasury Management services, and promote referral activity across TRB’s divisions and subsidiaries.
“Wyatt brings extensive experience leading treasury and payments strategy in high-growth regional banking environments,” said Cesar Suarez, Chief Banking Officer. “His ability to align treasury capabilities with deposit strategy and relationship banking will help strengthen our ability to serve clients and build lasting relationships as we continue expanding across Texas.”
Abernethy joins TRB with more than two decades of banking experience across treasury management, payments strategy, and commercial banking. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President and Executive Director of Payments & Treasury at Veritex Community Bank, where he led the institution’s enterprise treasury and payments strategy with P&L responsibility and helped modernize the bank’s payments platform.
During his tenure, he led treasury sales and support teams, developed fintech partnerships to expand digital payment capabilities, and collaborated across credit, operations, and technology teams to improve product adoption of treasury and payments solutions.
“TRB is building a strong and differentiated banking platform across Texas,” said Abernethy. “A disciplined deposit strategy and strong treasury capabilities are central to supporting that growth. I look forward to partnering with our team throughout the organization to strengthen TRB’s funding base and ensure our bankers have the tools and capabilities they need to serve clients effectively.”
Prior to his executive leadership roles, Abernethy held several progressive positions in treasury management and commercial banking, including Director of Treasury Management and Treasury Sales Officer, helping lead treasury growth and integration efforts during periods of significant institutional expansion.
Abernethy will be based in TRB’s Dallas Banking Center and will collaborate with teams statewide to support the bank’s continued growth and long-term balance sheet strategy.
