Dec. ’24 Regional Roundup: Rio Grande Valley

January 27, 2025

From a Jingle Bell 5K and a Livestock Show Gala to leading multiple financial literacy initiatives, Team TRB was active and involved in communities throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Team members collectively served over 180 hours in their respective communities throughout the month of December. Read below to see where and how Team TRB served last month.

Team TRB: In the Spotlight

Livestock Show Gala

TRB Team members from across the Valley came together to volunteer at the annual RGV Livestock Show Gala, where the team helped with organizing and executing the event. Some team members also served on a fundraising committee of volunteers from around the RGV with a mission to give back to the Sale of Champions, purchasing livestock projects and additional entries, and contributing extra funds to students who did not qualify for the sale. At the 2024 gala, the committee raised over $260,000, all of which will go to students participating in the upcoming show in March.

Feast of Sharing

Rene Martinez and Sylvia Lopez volunteered at HEB’s annual “Feast of Sharing” holiday meal, preparing meals with volunteers from around the RGV.

Financial Education

Diana Delaunay delivered financial education presentations across the RGV in December, including Ortiz Elementary and BISD Adult Continuing Education.

Holiday Fun-Run

Valeria Suarez and Irene Mercado participated in the “Jingle Bell 5k,” a fun-run fundraiser organized by the Jo-Nic Bloom Pregnancy and Wellness Studio. The event raised funds for the center and expanded their ability to serve low-middle income families and women in the RGV needing pregnancy and baby essentials.

AVANCE Program

Rene Martinez and Dalinda Guillen were invited to lead a financial literacy class for parents at AVANCE Head Start program in Rio Grande City. Since 1995, AVANCE has served more than 90,000 parents and children in the Rio Grande Valley.
