TRB Supports Brownsville’s 88th Annual Charro Days

March 24, 2025

Texas Regional Bank (TRB) Supports the 88th Annual Charro Days, a cherished tradition in Brownsville, Texas that celebrates the region’s deep-rooted cultural heritage. With a $10,000 donation and hosting the official kick-off celebration, TRB contributed to the historic event, which brings together the communities of Brownsville and Matamoros in a vibrant display of unity and tradition.

A Tradition Rooted in History

Since its inception in 1938, Charro Days has been a testament to the enduring spirit of the Rio Grande Valley. Born during the Great Depression as a way to lift community morale and stimulate the local economy, the festival has grown into a beloved annual celebration featuring parades, music, traditional attire, and festive events that honor the Mexican heritage shared by both sides of the border.

TRB Kick-off the Celebration

This year, TRB continued its annual tradition of hosting the official Charro Days Kick-Off Celebration. Originally hosted at the Brownsville Branch, the event migrated to the Brownsville event center. As the official kick-off host, TRB welcomed the community to celebrate the start of Charro Days with remarks, promotional items, and a strong presence from TRB employees, underscoring the bank’s commitment to this important cultural tradition.

“Charro Days is more than a festival—it’s a reflection of who we are as a community,” said Carlos Garza, TRB’s Brownsville Market President. “This event embodies the rich, bicultural and cross-border heritage that defines Brownsville, and it strengthens the deep ties between our city and Matamoros. TRB is proud to be part of this event that has become a family tradition over the years. It’s an honor to participate in such a meaningful celebration.”

Celebrating Unity and Culture

The celebration also includes the Sombrero Festival, a three-day street festival in Washington Park featuring Tejano, Conjunto, Norteno, Country, and Rock performances, along with local food, games, and entertainment for the entire community.

One of the most iconic traditions of Charro Days is the Hands Across the Border ceremony, where residents of Brownsville and Matamoros join in a symbolic display of friendship and cultural unity. The festivities continue with the Grand International Parade, bringing together dazzling floats, lively bands, and majestic horses to delight attendees of all ages.

Looking Ahead to Next Year

Charro Days continues to be a vibrant tribute to the history, resilience, and shared heritage of the Rio Grande Valley. If you missed this year’s festivities, the people you know at TRB encourage you to mark your calendar for next spring and take part in this incredible tradition.

Demonstrating its “Community” core value, TRB remains committed to supporting events that unite the communities it serves. For more information on TRB’s community involvement, visit www.trb.bank.
