Texas Regional Bank (TRB) welcomed its 2026 Summer Intern Class, providing a select group of students from universities across Texas with hands-on experience and exposure to career opportunities across the organization.
To kick off the program, TRB hosted Intern Day on June 17 at its corporate headquarters in Harlingen, where interns met with leaders from across the organization and gained insight into the businesses, services, and culture that shape TRB.
The six-week program is designed to help students better understand community banking while gaining practical experience alongside teams throughout TRB. The program was introduced by Michael Lamon, President of Banking Administration, and organized by Cody Gains, Talent Acquisition Manager.
Following another strong applicant pool, TRB selected a smaller intern class this year to create a more focused and personalized experience.
The 2026 intern class includes students representing Texas A&M University, The University of Texas, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Texas Tech University, University of Houston, Southern Methodist University, and University of North Texas.
On Intern Day, the new cohort heard from executives and team members across TRB, gaining insight into how departments throughout the organization work together to serve customers, businesses, and communities across Texas.
Throughout the day, leaders shared lessons from their own careers, offering perspective on professional growth, leadership, and the decisions that shape long-term success.
Chairman and CEO Michael Scaief encouraged interns to take ownership of their future and be intentional about the opportunities they pursue throughout their careers.
“We built this bank one relationship at a time,” Scaief said. “The decisions you make and the relationships you build will help determine where you go.”
A central component of TRB’s internship program is departmental rotation. Interns are placed within areas aligned with their interests while gaining exposure to the broader organization and the many career paths available within banking and financial services.
Throughout the summer, participants will work alongside teams across the bank, building practical experience and developing a deeper understanding of how a community bank operates. Departmental rotations provide exposure to the diverse functions that support customers and communities throughout Texas.
“Our internships are intentional,” said Cody Gaines, Talent Acquisition Manager. “We want to help students grow professionally and gain exposure to the many career paths available throughout the organization.”
The impact of the program can already be seen throughout the organization.
Thomas Pearson, now a Financial Analyst at TRB, previously participated in the internship program and credits the experience with helping shape his career path.
“Interning is one of the most beneficial things a college student can do,” Pearson said. “I gained hands-on experience, learned from professionals across the bank, and was exposed to many different areas of the organization. It helped me better understand where I wanted to focus my career.”
Stories like Pearson’s demonstrate one of the program’s primary goals: helping students connect classroom learning with real-world experience while building relationships that support future career opportunities.
As the internship program continues through July, interns will participate in department rotations, work alongside experienced professionals, and gain practical experience in their areas of interest. Now in its second year, the program continues to provide students with meaningful exposure to community banking while helping develop the next generation of professionals across Texas.
