FRAUD ALERT: Phone, Text, and E-Mail Scams

It’s a dangerous world out there, and cybercrime is happening way more than you think. Hackers want to gain access to your accounts and devices for your personal and financial information.

Texans across the state have noticed a significant increase in fraudulent emails, texts, and phone calls that appear to be sent by their financial institution but are cyber criminals trying to obtain personal, financial, or account information.

It’s essential to protect yourself. Awareness and education are critical in your defense against cybercriminals.

• TRB will NEVER ask for your password under any circumstances.
• TRB will NEVER initiate contact by phone, email, or text and ask for your account, debit, or social security number.
• Do not click on links from incoming texts or emails unless they are from a trusted source.  Remember, 94% of malicious software is delivered by email.
• Always verbally authenticate payment instructions received via email.  Emails from fraudsters pretending to be someone you know are on the rise.
• If a text, email or phone call doesn’t feel right do not respond.  Contact the sender using the contact information you have on file or search for them using a public source such as the internet.
