Texas Regional Bank (TRB) recently partnered with the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce to host the annual Charro Days Mixer, helping kick off the 89th Annual Charro Days celebration—one of the Rio Grande Valley’s most cherished cultural traditions.
Held February 24 at the Brownsville Events Center, the event brought together community leaders, business partners, and residents for an evening of food, music, and celebration ahead of the weeklong festivities.
Representatives from TRB joined Chamber leadership, volunteers, and local supporters to mark the beginning of the celebration, which highlights the shared heritage and friendship between Brownsville and Matamoros.
Tradition with Community Roots
First celebrated in 1938, Charro Days was created during the Great Depression to bring the community together and support the local economy. Today, the celebration continues to strengthen the cultural ties between the neighboring border cities while drawing thousands of visitors each year.
For TRB, the partnership with the Brownsville Chamber has grown into a tradition of its own.
“As many of you know, we’ve been partnering with the Chamber for nearly a decade to host this celebration,” said Carlos Garza, TRB’s Brownsville Market President, during the event. “It’s become a tradition for many families here in Brownsville—including mine.”
Supporting the Celebration
TRB has supported the Charro Days Mixer for more than ten years. For many of those years, the event was hosted at the bank’s Pablo Kisel banking center before moving to the Brownsville Events Center to accommodate the growing celebration. During this year’s mixer, the Revival of Cultural Arts (ROCA) helped bring the spirit of Charro Days to life with traditional folklórico dances commonly seen throughout the week’s festivities, adding a vibrant cultural element to the evening.
Earlier in February, TRB also presented a $10,000 donation to the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce at the Pablo Kisel branch to support Charro Days and the Chamber’s ongoing work in the community.
Garza thanked the Chamber’s leadership, volunteers, and board members for their continued commitment to Brownsville.
“Just as the Chamber is committed to serving our community, we are equally dedicated to investing in it,” Garza said. “Events like Charro Days bring people together and celebrate the culture and traditions that make this region unique.”
Celebrating Brownsville’s Culture
The Charro Days Mixer officially launched the 2026 celebration, welcoming guests to enjoy music, refreshments, and community fellowship as the city prepares for one of its most anticipated annual events.
Through partnerships with organizations like the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, TRB continues to support traditions and initiatives that strengthen communities across South Texas.
