McAllen Day in Austin brought city officials, business leaders, and community partners to the Texas Capitol to advocate for key issues affecting McAllen and the greater Rio Grande Valley. Led by the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, the City of McAllen, and the McAllen Economic Development Corporation, the delegation worked to elevate local priorities at the state level.
Texas Regional Bank (TRB) supported this historic effort by joining the delegation and sponsoring key advocacy sessions—reinforcing its commitment to McAllen’s growth and the prosperity of the Rio Grande Valley.

Addressing Key Legislative Priorities
Throughout the day, McAllen leaders participated in targeted discussions and panel sessions focused on critical issues shaping the region’s future. The delegation engaged directly with state officials, bringing attention to legislative priorities that impact businesses, infrastructure, workforce development, and public services.
The event began with a welcome breakfast, where Mayor Javier Villalobos, City Manager Isaac Tawil, and McAllen Chamber Board Chairman Hershal Patel addressed attendees, setting the stage for a full day of advocacy. Participants then joined panel discussions on workforce development, education, healthcare, transportation, and energy, featuring insights from industry leaders and state policymakers.
In the afternoon, the delegation was formally recognized during a House Resolution reading and a Senate Resolution presentation at the Texas Capitol, reinforcing the importance of McAllen’s presence in statewide conversations.

Strengthening Connections Through Collaboration
TRB played a key role in fostering these discussions by hosting an evening networking reception at their branch in downtown Austin, providing an opportunity for McAllen leaders to continue conversations with legislators in a collaborative setting near the Capitol.
“McAllen Day is a significant step toward ensuring our region’s priorities are heard at the state level,” said Brent Baldree, TRB President and Board Treasurer of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. “Bringing together local leaders, business professionals, and policymakers in this way allows us to advocate for the resources and policies that will drive long-term growth in McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley. TRB is committed to creating the connections and supporting the initiatives that move our communities forward.”

Looking Ahead
The hope is that the impact of McAllen Day in Austin will extend far beyond the events themselves. McAllen Day represents the beginning of a new tradition—one that ensures McAllen’s voice is heard at the state level and that the region continues to thrive.
